WISCONSIN SUMMERSThe Comforts I’ve Been Collecting Lately
There’s something so comforting about having all three of my kids home. Knowing everyone is safe, tucked into their own beds, still asleep while I sip my morning coffee in complete peace is one of my favorite feelings.
Wisconsin summer mornings are especially precious because we don’t get many of them each year. Being able to sit outside with a warm cup of coffee feels like such a gift, and I never want to take it for granted.
Of course, our four dogs don’t exactly understand the meaning of a peaceful morning. The moment they hit the yard, they’re chasing each other as if they’ve been apart for weeks, running circles through the grass and breathing so hard you’d think they’d just finished a marathon.
Somehow, though, they become part of the peace.
I sit quietly with my coffee and take in the sounds around me.
The birds are louder than my thoughts, the dogs race across the yard, and the morning comes alive in the most beautiful way. It’s a peaceful kind of commotion—the kind that reminds me life is happening right in front of me.
Lately, I’ve realized just how much I need these little pauses.
It’s one of the reasons I fell in love with the name The Collected Life. To me, it’s about collecting these moments. The quiet mornings. The familiar routines. The little comforts that are so easy to overlook while we’re waiting for the next big thing.
We often think comfort comes from vacations, celebrations, or major milestones. But more often than not, I find it here—before the emails, before the errands, before the pace of the day begins.
Just a warm mug in my hands.
Four happy dogs running through the yard.
Three kids still sleeping.
A few quiet minutes to notice the beauty that’s been here all along.
These are the comforts I’ve been collecting lately.
And maybe that’s what The Collected Life is really about.
Not chasing a perfect life.Simply paying attention to the ordinary moments that quietly become the most beautiful parts of
it.
